The are 2 cables running to the door release. You have 2 options to free it. 1. remove the cables from the door release. 2. remove the door release from the door. There are 2 plastic clips holding the door release to the door panel. They are easily pried with a flat blade screw driver.
Remove the screw in the door lock handle trim and the grab cup. Pull along the entire edge of the door panel until all the plastic anchors have released. Lift up and out over the door lock tabs.
